Me: Hey Dave you know the Bible right?
Dave: Yes, I’ve heard of it.
Me: What do you know about Revelation?
Dave: (pause)….it’s been a while since I’ve read it
Me: Well is it true that excessive fog, and Jennifer Granholm being voted to another term are the first signs of the apocalypse
Dave: Oh yeah that’s true….but’s it found in Romans.
So my friends you’ve heard it here first. It’s the beginning of the end. If Jesus has not yet made you a Christian I suggest you settle in for the long haul. Stack up on canned goods, water, batteries. Get yourself a generator. If your interested in what happens next I suggest picking up a book or 12 written by my friends Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. They’ve figured it out. No need to try and study it for yourself in the Bible. If you see a pair of clothes sitting on a chair it must mean that your friend has been raptured. Beware of cars that suddenly stop on the freeway because the people driving have “dissappeared”. If you’re not into the whole reading thing, they made a movie starring Kirk Cameron. Who better than a washed up actor from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s to inspire us to make sure we love Jesus or else we’ll go through Hell on earth? Right?
Sorry that’s there no real point to this blog. If you’ve spent five minutes of your life that you’ll never get back reading this I urge you to let me make it up to you. I’d offer to buy you coffee but then you’d just have to listen to me more and try to figure out what is goin on in this head of mine. It’s a scary place friends. If you voted for Granholm I’m sorry that I’m not sorry if I’ve offended you. If you voted for DeVos let’s proudly join hands and put on a badge of honor that says ” I voted for the Amway guy”!!

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
These words have been back and forth in my mind like a ping pong ball lately. Espescially the first part, “The word became flesh”. What does that mean for me. How does it apply to my life. Click….It is my life. The words must become flesh. I must take the truths of the gospel and live them. Not in a legalistic follow the leader kind of way. I’m not mechanical. I’m no robot. I’m in love with Jesus. Really in love. Not because I’m supposed to be, but because he gave me life. In response to that I love others the way that he loved me. And I know it sounds crazy but I can be me! I can dress the way that I dress and like the things that I like. I can be Aaron Edwards and live out the truth of the gospel in a way that is relevant to people who like the same things I like. For example….I like cheese. (not like kraft singles, they have a weird texture). I can take the gospel to cheese lovers everywhere. I don’t have to pretend to be a ham guy. I can find common ground with just about anyone, and be genuinely interested in them. I don’t have much in common with a “Gothic” person. Picture me with black hair and a long trench coat…(Scary I know). But maybe we both like the same band, or books, or television shows. That’s a starting point. As the relationship builds they see the love of Christ in me. It’s genuine. I don’t have to be something I’m not. I can be ME and apply the gospel to that.
I also don’t have to walk around like a crazy reformed maniac hitting people in the head with my John Piper signed ESV Bible. (my bible isn’t really signed by John Piper, I Wish!!) I’m not trying to pull a bait and switch. I’m just lucky to be part of what God is doing. In Matthew 22 when Jesus is asked what the greatest commandment is he replies in verses 37-39 with this: 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The more we love God the more we will love our neighbors. As we love our neighbors our love for God will shine through. As the love of God shines through us HIS glory will be seen. HE will draw people to himself. It’s only by his grace that we are able to be part of HIS story.

I’m sitting in the middle lane..There’s a car to my left and a car to my right. The light changes and I go zero to eighty in about .04 seconds. The dude on my right has a smug look on his face. As if in slow motion he puts his third finger up. I’m reading his lips. I think to myself “those are not nice words”. How is this my fault?? Can he read street signs? He must be able to he’s got a drivers license…or does he? All I know is that sign that was 200 feet back meant that his lane was going to end and he needed to get over..behind me. Have you ever had an encounter with “that guy”? He comes in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes he’s a she. Not a she like she used to be a he and now she’s a she. I guess it would be that girl. From this point on when I say “that guy” it means chicks or dudes. Then there’s “that guy” who drives 16 miles with his left blinker on and then ultimately turns right. “That Guy” who goes 90 in a 45 just so he can cut you off and beat you to the red light. (That guy usually ends up going about 5 under the speed limit. He just couldn’t stand the thought of YOU being in front of him)
Then there is the guy of all “that guy”s We’ve all encountered him. For six miles there’s been a big flourescent orange sign that says left lane closed ahead. He proceeds to drive in the left lane. Opportunities come and go but he refuses to move to the right. Suddenly there’s an arrow. This still doesn’t prompt him to get over. Suddenly he’s at the arrow and it’s like he’s had an Epiphany…”I have to get over” He puts his blinker on. He gets mad that I don’t let him over. Why is he mad. There have been six miles worth of signs. Without consideration of accidents or other people he proceeds to push his way in. Now there is a traffic jam…
What would Jesus do in this situation?? If he’s riding into Jerusalem on his donkey, would he let just any Jackass over? Should I? Yeah I should. I should love them even if they’re a moron. I’m a moron. I have road rage driving through my veins. I need grace to overcome it….badly. I need to learn patience. Pray for me.
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
